RELAXED2NATURAL ~ BEFORE AND AFTER

MEET RELAXED2NATURAL...A FLY NATURAL WHO DECIDED TO DO AWAY WITH THE HAIR TRENDS ,AND START MAINTAINING NATURAL HEALTHY HAIR.

HOW LONG WERE YOU THINKING OF GOING NATURAL ? WHAT'S THE STORY?

I had my first relaxer around the age of Five. Majority of my life ,i've had a head full of hair.It wasn't necessarily damaged ,but it was pretty long and pretty full.It was until i started getting a little scissor happy in highschool. You know everyone wanted to rock that snazy symmetrical bob Rhianna had ,once upon a time. Anywho >-> lol I've always had a thing for big hair ,and curls .Once I figured out i could achieve that ,chemical free i was sold. I had been saying ,i had wanted to go natural for years, but never went through with it, for many reasons,I was discouraged. A lot of it was due to fear of what others would think of me..after all, i was the girl with 'good" hair,i was the girl that everybody made a big deal about, even when i got my ends trimmed! But i went through with it and I'm glad i did!

WAS YOUR TRANSITION A LONG OR SHORT ONE??

Others may not think so ,but i considered my transition long! I Actually transitioned for 9 months which was LONG enough for me! While i learned a lot about my hair over the time ,once i got to that sixth month, that anxiety started kicking in and i was through dealing with it. lol

WE ALL KNOW HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO MOISTURIZE YOUR HAIR WHILE IN TRANSITION ,WHAT PRODUCTS DID YOU USE TO KEEP YOUR HAIR MOISTURIZED ?

Yeeeeaaaa ,as i entered my transition i also entered my product junky phase! LoL I'll say the products that i stayed loyal to (and still do today) as far as moisturizing ,included shea butter, coconut oil and doo gro MEGA THICK growth oil (yes i purposely info-sized the "mega thick" because Doo Gro has two hair oils and this is the one without mineral oil, the ingredients are WAY better in this one). I used those products along with co-washing every week 1-2x a week.

WHAT WAS YOUR STAPLE HAIRSTYLE WHILE IN TRANSITION?

My staple hair styles while transitioning was a braid-kinky twists-cornrow combo. However, around the last month and a half of my transition ,i wanted to get to know my hair ,so i stayed away from the weave and did more braid-outs, twist-outs and even bantu knots.

WHEN YOU DECIDED TO BIG CHOP ,HOW DID YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR CUT? AND HOW DID PEOPLE REACT TO IT?
I actually BC'ed myself! i was doing pretty good in the beginning and when i was about half way done the "what did i just do" started kicking in LoL! Once i was finished i fell in love with it though. A lot of people were shocked because they thought I'd grow my hair out longer..They didn't think I'd go through with it. All the doubts only motivated me.

DID YOU HAVE ANY REGRETS??

My only regret was that i didn't cut my hair sooner! Dealing with those two textures were uuuggghhh! words can't even explain how horrible it was for me because my hair is so thick! it would take me HOURS just to detangle my hair lets alone style it! I would get so frustrated with it! If only i would have big chopped sooner *long sigh* i would've saved myself so much grief! So for those of you still debating...chop that mess off!

WHAT ARE YOUR LONG TERM GOALS FOR YOUR HAIR JOURNEY?

My long term goals for my hair journey? Of course i want to focus on maintaining healthy hair. As of right now I'm not really focusing on length. I heart my TWA =) with a passion! a fierce passion lol! plus I've notice that my hair grows pretty fast. But right now health is my main focus: using the right products, keeping my hair moisturized, protective styling, eating and drinking the right things, etc.
